Sub-Symposium on Turbulent Boundary Layers (TBL)

About THMT Sub-Symposium on TBL

THMT-27 features an important sub-symposium on TBL, which brings together researchers and practitioners working on topics of turbulent heat, mass and fluid flows in boundary layers. This THMT sub-symposium continues the celebration of the ground-breaking boundary-layer theory (1904) of Professor Ludwig Prandtl, one of the most significant breakthroughs in thermal-fluids science and engineering. The sub-symposium highlights recent advances in boundary-layer theory, smooth and rough-wall flows, near-wall coherent flow structures, and environmental and engineering applications.

The topics of the sub-symposium include, but are not limited to:

  • Theories of momentum, thermal and concentration TBLs
  • Experimental measurements and modern sensor technology for TBLs: velocity, pressure, temperature, and concentration
  • Numerical simulation and modelling of TBLs: DNS, LES, (U)RANS, hybrid RANS/LES, DES, PDFs, and LBM
  • Rough-wall and/or pressure-gradient TBLs and near-wall coherent structures
  • TBL separation and reattachment
  • High-speed TBL flows and shock interactions (with TBL)
  • Combustion and chemical reacting flows in TBL
  • Phase change and (nano) particles in TBL
  • Atmospheric boundary layers (ABL)
  • TBL applications in environmental, chemical, civil, mechanical and aerospace engineering
