About the THMT Conference Series

The International Symposium on THMT was initiated by the Joint ICHMT/IUTAM Symposium on Structure of Turbulence, Heat and Mass Transfer (Dubrovnik, 1982), and was reformatted and evolved into an ICHMT event held in Lisbon (Portugal, 1994), and then, in Delft (the Netherlands, 1997), Nagoya (Japan, 2000), Antalya (Turkey, 2003), Dubrovnik (Croatia, 2006), Rome (Italy, 2009), Palermo (Italy, 2012), Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina, 2015), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil, 2018), Rome (Italy, 2023), and Tokyo (Japan, 2025). The founding chair of this conference series is Prof. Kemo Hanjalić (1994-2023), co-chaired by Prof. Yasutaka Nagano (2000-2015) and Prof. Kazuhiko Suga (2018-2023). THMT is currently chaired by Prof. Kazuhiko Suga (2023-).

About THMT-27

THMT-27 will bring together researchers and practitioners working in turbulence, heat and mass transfer, reacting flow, multiphase flow, modelling, and advanced numerical simulation. The symposium aims to highlight recent advances, emerging challenges, and practical engineering applications.

The topics of the symposium include, but are not limited to:

  • Experiments, techniques and theories on turbulence and scalar transport in forced, natural and mixed convection
  • Numerical algorithms, simulations and modelling: DNS, LES, (U)RANS, hybrid RANS/LES, DES, PDFs, and LBM
  • Boundary-layer theory, coherent structures, and control methods for drag reduction and heat transfer enhancement
  • Aerodynamics, compressible and high-speed flows Combustion and chemically reacting flows
  • Multiphase flows
  • Environmental, atmospheric and geophysical flows, and transport phenomena Marine and river hydrodynamics
  • AI and machine learning thermal fluids
  • Effects of turbulence on particulate, droplet, and film heat and mass transfer
  • MHD flows and micro/nano fluidics
  • Utilization of heat and mass transfer in energy, process and environmental technologies
  • Applications: biomedical flows, heat exchangers, engines, turbomachinery, and HVAC & Refrigeration
